In the Midst of a Bathroom Reno: Part 4

Welll.... now that it is officially a couple of months past when we started the bathroom, I thought I should show you where we are at. This is basically done.. we just have a couple of pieces of base tile to install around the vanity and install the glass mosaic tile around the mirror. Who knows when those will happen..

I finally got around to getting pictures of the bathroom clean and in daylight. Here we go:

(Okay, this one was at night, but it shows the color pretty well.)

(LOVE this showerhead- Kohler Flipside)

(From the top of the vanity all the way to the ceiling will be frosted white mosaic tile.)

Ta daa... Until we tile, this will probably be our "big reveal."

Let's do a quick before & after:

Earth shattering, no?

In the Midst of a Bathroom Reno: Part 3

When I last left you our house was a mess and the bathroom was in a state of quarter-completion.Over the next couple of days, my dad finished up the tiling, installed the towel bars, John primed the ceiling and walls and we have pretty much been holding since then. We were first waiting for the (special order) vanity and sink to come in and then as soon as they did, John had to go away for two more weeks of work testing. Yay.

Here is the point we are at now:

Before priming. Love the shower niches!

It was nighttime/dark, but you get the idea. We will definitely have better pictures once we are all complete.

The floor tiling.

TWO towel rods! No more squishing our towels and dealing with nasty wet towels the next morning!

Our new window! SO much nicer than worrying about the wood trim in the shower. And it is frosted so we don't need blinds.

New recessed light over the shower and super quiet ceiling fan.

John re-worked the heating duct so that the register is in the wall instead of the floor.

The vanity sink! "Cultured marble" ie white solid surface w/integral sink.
And this dude- a walking stick that was chilling on my dad's truck. I inspected him while I was showering out there.

The state of my house:

The guest room - aka staging room.
Drop cloths throughout the house to protect the floors.
The living room- piles all over.
The dining room- the is actually pretty good. There is usually manuals and bits and pieces all over the table.
The kitchen counter- covered with boxes of veggies and stuff from my dad.
The fridge puled out to get at the access panel to the bathroom/shower.
And the outside:
My dad's trailer- we have been showering at the outside shower on the trailer all week since our only shower was torn out. I am so glad we aren't having to take hose showers. Under the blue tarp is all of the construction material that needs to be brought to the dump.
All of the vehicles taking over the driveway. Good thing we got that, eh?

In the Midst of a Bathroom Reno: Part I

My parents came down on Saturday to drop off my dad, his work van and their camper for the week. Why? So my daddy can redo the bathroom!! No more blue bathtub, sink, tiles, toilet! The trailer is necessary so that we can shower for the week! I don't think I would have done so well if we had to take hose showers for a full week :(

When we bought-

Beginning- a couple of weeks ago.

Tearing out the trim around the old window to get a good measurement.

Before-

Day 1- Saturday

Demo

Day 2- Sunday
Initial electrical and plumbing set up.

Install new window. (No wood in the shower, and it is frosted so we don't have to have blinds in the shower.)

Add ducting to the attic to the new vent/fan in the bathroom.

Day 3- Monday
New re-built walls, ceiling.
Add recessed light to the shower.
Set (DEEP!) tub in place.

New subfloor.
Re-insulate exterior wall, attic.
Install shower niches (to be tiled over for shampoo, etc.)

Day 4- Tuesday

Install new backerboard in shower.

Install new moisture resistant gyp board in the rest of the bathroom and the ceiling.

Day 5- Wednesday
Tile the shower walls.

The hope is to tile the bathroom floor and base on Thursday and then Friday seal the tile and grout it. I believe Saturday is the day that the new toilet will be set in place, in addition to installing the showerhead/faucets, etc.

We had to special order the vanity and mirror, so that will not be here until mid-September, along with it's counter. Once we have all of that, John and I can install the frosted glass mosaic tile that will surround the mirror.

I haven't decided on paint yet (wanted to see the tile in place with the sealer on it) and once I decide on that, we can paint and then install the towel bars. Then, I think we should be done. Until the next project. The fence!

Nothing Like

I had to tear the trim off in order to measure the rough opening so that my dad can order our replacement window!!

..I sincerely apologize that my photos have been less than stellar lately.
